Crowd of 500 people launch Rep. Vinny deMacedo’s State Senate campaign at kickoff
March 31, 2014
“I’m overwhelmed, grateful and honored by your friendship and support,” State Representative Vinny deMacedo told an overflow crowd of more than 500 friends and supporters who joined him to launch his campaign for State Senate at Waverly Oaks Golf Club on Monday evening, March 31, 2014.
Representative deMacedo was also joined by community leaders and elected officials from all of the towns in the Plymouth and Barnstable State Senate District.
“Seventeen years ago, when I first ran for State Representative, I introduced myself as Vinny from the gas station. I promised that I would represent all the voters with honesty, integrity, hard work, and common sense. I hope you agree that I have kept my promise.”
Representative deMacedo continued, “My legislative career has also been shaped by my commitment to building relationships and working together with my colleagues regardless of party affiliation or ideology. Public service is not about politics or parties, it’s about people.”
James Cummings, Sheriff of Barnstable County, said, “Vinny is the kind of State Senator we need for Bourne, Sandwich and Falmouth. Vinny works with everyone, and he quietly gets things done. He focuses on solutions not politics.”
Representative David Vieira of Falmouth, who has worked with deMacedo on Beacon Hill, said, “While his legislative efforts have earned him many statewide awards, it’s his tireless commitment to his constituents that impresses me most.”
Representative deMacedo said, “For me, service has always been the most important part of public service. I am honored to be able to pick up the phone to help someone with a government agency. I consider responsive constituent service a privilege and the primary reason why you have elected me to represent you. And, while I’m still widely recognized as Vinny from the gas station, I have also learned a great deal over the past 16 years in the House of Representatives, experience that I will put to work for you in the State Senate if elected.”
Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said, “Vinny is the kind of independent voice we need more of on Beacon Hill. That’s the reason why so many Democrats, independents and Republicans support him. It’s also the reason why his colleagues in the House and Senate will tell you that he has been so effective.”
Representative Randy Hunt said, “More than anything else, I think it’s important for people to understand why his fellow legislators – both Democrats and Republicans – elected Vinny as President of the Massachusetts Legislators Association. They work with him every day. They know him and respect him.”
Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald, Jr. said, “The main reason I think Vinny has been so effective in the House – and why I think he’ll be even more effective in the State Senate – is simple; he treats everyone with respect. His core values and principles guide his actions. He is constantly looking for the common ground to bring people together to solve problems, not to get a quick headline.”
Representative deMacedo concluded his remarks by saying, “Whether you live in Pembroke, Kingston, Plymouth, Bourne, Sandwich or Falmouth, I will bring the same commitment to honesty, integrity, hard work and common sense to the State Senate. It would be a privilege and honor to serve all of the citizens of the Plymouth and Barnstable District.”
