WHO State Rep. Vinny deMacedo, R-Plymouth
WHAT Each year, the Massachusetts Town Clerks Association recognizes a Legislator of the Year based on his or her support for, responsiveness to and effectiveness regarding issues and legislation the town clerks believe to be important to the citizens of the commonwealth.
WHEN June 9, at the Association’s annual meeting
WHY Plymouth Town Clerk Laurence Pizer, a former Association president who now serves as chairman of the Association’s Legislative Committee, made the presentation. He noted that deMacedo’s major accomplishment for the clerks was his work in passing the Vital Records Bill that permits the state to create a statewide database and Internet connection to allow more efficient communication among hospitals, municipal clerks and the state Registry of Vital Records and Statistics. The bill will allow parents much quicker access to birth certificates and, eventually, any clerk across the state will be able to produce a certified copy for any Massachusetts birth, Pizer explained.
