PLYMOUTH - The new courthouse on Obery Street is not dedicated to anybody in particular. But the stamp of one person is all over the place.

Dignitaries, including the governor and chief justice of the Supreme Judicial Court pointed to Senate President Therese Murray this week in bringing the decades-long project to fruition.

2008 Budget Details

Budget Includes Funding to Aid Communities, Residents of Plymouth Area

Senate President Therese Murray (D-Plymouth) and Representative Vinny deMacedo (R-Plymouth), Ranking Minority Member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, announced today that the fiscal year 2008 budget passed by the Legislature includes several funding initiatives that focus on the needs of the communities and residents of the Plymouth area.

Finally on their way

PLYMOUTH - Help is on the way to the impoverished African nation of Guinea Bissau, courtesy of America’s Hometown.

Two fire engines and an ambulance are en route to the West African country via the neighboring nation of Senegal. The equipment is expected to arrive in Guinea Bissau within a month and will mark the first firefighting equipment the country has seen in decades.

Bill seeks rapid rebates

PLYMOUTH - That flatscreen TV seems a little more reasonable at $100 off. The manufacturer will make good on the good deal just as soon as they receive the rebate forms. In a week, or maybe 12, the check will be in the mail. If it’s not a check, it could be a letter saying you forgot to include the receipt in triplicate, so please try again. Rep. Vinny deMacedo, R-Plymouth, knows the lyrics to the rebate blues, and hopes legislation he recently filed will lead retailers to honor manufacturers’ rebates at the register.

Portico Rehabilitation

The state will spend $850,000 to rehab portico and state pier

PLYMOUTH - Plymouth Rock’s 85-year-old portico will receive much needed rehabilitation from the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

After years of using “Band-Aids” including a net to protect visitors from falling ceiling tiles, to remedy the major structural problems, the DCR will invest $500,000 to rehabilitate the famous structure, and $350,000 for improvements at Pilgrim Memorial State Park and Frazier State Pier, where the Mayflower II is docked.
