deMacedo Pleased with Brown Victory

PLYMOUTH — The new senator from Massachusetts, Republican Scott Brown, received a resounding endorsement from Plymouth voters Tuesday.  And his former colleague on Beacon Hill, state Rep. Vinny DeMacedo, R-Plymouth, expressed his pleasure in Brown’s victory Wednesday afternoon, as he recounted his friend’s political roots.

“We had back-to-back offices in the transportation offices at the State House,” deMacedo said of Brown. “He’s a friend. I’m excited that the people of Plymouth responded to his message.”

With approximately 60 percent of the state’s voters registered as unenrolled – declaring no party affiliation –  and only about 15 percent registered as Republicans, deMacedo said the upset election sends a message to Washington...

Plymouth says "no': 80 percent vote against local meals tax

PLYMOUTH — A plan that would have made it more expensive to eat out got kicked out by voters Tuesday.

A whopping 79.8 percent of the impressive 60 percent of Plymouth voters who turned out at the polls this week said “no” to a proposal to implement a .75 percent local meals tax. The new tax was created by the state legislature last year to provide Massachusetts communities with a new way to increase local revenue in response to cuts in state aid....

State Rep. Vinny deMacedo, R-Plymouth, who was also against the new tax, had a similar take on Tuesday’s vote.

“People understand that the economy is bad and it’s bad for one of our major industries, which is tourism,” he said. “Three or four restaurants have closed in the last half of the year. They’re in very precarious positions and we can’t put any more burden on them. I don’t think people mind giving their fair share. It’s not that they don’t want to give more money; it’s that they don’t have more to give.”

Rep. deMacedo Announces His Voluntary Furlough

BOSTON— State Representative Vinny deMacedo announced today he will be taking a voluntary furlough. This announcement comes after Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo announced all House staff would be required to take a five day furlough to help tighten the budget gap.

The members of the House are not constitutionally obligated to take a furlough; however Representative deMacedo said everyone needs to share in the sacrifice as state lawmakers deal with a massive budget shortfall.

Rep. deMacedo Helps Saves Town Cost of Special Referendum Election

STATE HOUSE, BOSTON - When Plymouth residents head to the voting booth on January 19th to cast their vote for U.S. Senate, they will also have the opportunity to vote in favor or against a tax referendum, Representative Vinny deMacedo announced today.

Originally, voters were expected to vote on the tax referendum on December 19th, which would have cost the Town of Plymouth thousands of dollars in unnecessary election related costs.
