House Leadership

During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Vinny deMacedo has risen through the ranks and with the appointment of House Republican Leader Bradley Jones serves as the ranking minority member on the House Committee on Ways and Means. This position requires deMacedo to participate in all Ways and Means Conference Committees, which enables him to play a central role in the state’s budget writing process. In fact, nearly every bill impacting the finances of the Commonwealth passes through the Ways and Means Committee on its way to becoming law.

In addition, as a Republican member of the House, deMacedo is a member of the Legislature’s minority party. Throughout the history of American democratic politics, the minority party has performed a central role in shaping public policy, as well as providing for an effective check and balance on the power of the majority.

For nearly twenty-years, the Republican Minority in the Massachusetts Legislature has provided an effective balance to one-party dominance is state government. Today, with a Democratic majority controlling both branches of the Legislature and all state-wide offices, including the corner office of the governor, the role of the Republican legislative minority is essential to the effective exchange of ideas.

This session's House Republican agenda focuses on eight key areas:

>Restoring Public Trust in Elected Officials
>Overhauling the Pension Program
>Providing an Efficient and Effective Transportation System
>Ensuring Affordable Healthcare
>Renewing Commitment to Commonwealth Communities
>Reining in Spending and Promote Sustainable Budgeting
>Protecting Your Finances While Putting Money Back in Your Pocket
>Stimulating Business in a Tough Economy
